Welcome to Kingswear Community Primary School

Welcome to Kingswear Primary School and thank you for your interest in our wonderful school. Over the last eight years our school has grown from under 30 to 76, from two classes to three. We primarily serve the Parish of Kingswear including Hillhead but also welcome children from Brixham, Dartmouth and Torbay. We are a small school and that’s what makes us great! We work closely with our parents and community to make this a family school.
Our most recent Ofsted Inspection graded us Good in all areas apart from pupil safety which was deemed Outstanding. Attainment in 2014 was Good across the FSU, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Progress was Outstanding, (44% of our cohort made three levels progress in Maths). We ensure that all our children achieve the basic skills in Reading, Writing and Maths and year on year our achievement shows above national expectation. Our inspector commented that " Reading was a particular strength of the school".
We are also committed to ensuring all our children recognise their place in Britain and the World. This drives our curriculum. In 2014 we ran two visits to London for Year 2 and Year 6, we even managed to meet Nick Clegg! We utilise our beautiful environment on a daily basis. We have a brand new playground, a fabulous school field with its own pavillion and a piece of farm land which we have converted into class gardens , and a camping area. We have a very strong outdoor philosophy.
When our children leave at the end of Year six they are spoilt for choice. Brixham Community College, Dartmouth Academy and Churston Grammar School. We have excellent relationships with all our Secondary colleagues. We are really proud to lead Kingswear, it really is a very exciting and special place. You are always welcome to visit us and our children would be delighted to show you around.

On Friday afternoon, during the KS2 PSHE lesson, we looked at all of the things that contribute to a happy classroom. The children then had to rank these in order of importance to them. Once they had settled on their order, they then had to explain their choices to the rest of the groups.
The children then went on to work independently and think about how their own strengths contribute to making KS2 a happy classroom. Some really interesting ideas were shared and debates on the importance of different strengths were had.
